London is always calling when it comes to corporate events and sales conferences.  England’s buzzing capital reigns supreme for hotel choice, culture, fine dining and public transport links.  Make use of The Thames for twilight drinks and adrenaline pumping RIB trips, or take a short day-trip to the home counties for country pursuits.   

Give your attendees an unparalleled experience with a hotel setting like Raffles at the Old War Office. Set in the heart of Westminster, this long-awaited opening has a luxury spa, lavish bedrooms and several epic event spaces including a beautiful ballroom. The service is second to none. For a vibrant Soho setting, Ham Yard Hotel is a firm favourite, well-loved by creatives. Having zero expectations about the weather can be liberating when planning a corporate event. Yes, it might rain (it might even snow) but you knew that when you chose Scotland for your event. The historic architecture, access to breathtaking scenery, atmospheric bars and mouth watering foodie scene make it a world-class event destination.

The city is awash with brilliant hotels including a relatively new kid on the block, Virgin Hotel Edinburgh, an amazing hotel with 222 bedrooms in the historic Old Town. Each room has its own mini SMEG fridge and the hotel includes a converted chapel as one of its event spaces, as well as boasting an in-house mixologist and Chef’s table. Overlooking a private garden square, the luxurious Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel consists of seven interconnected Georgian townhouses. Blending modern with traditional, there are six newly-renovated spaces to choose from, accommodating anywhere from 12 to 350 guests all with state-of-the art AV and technology. Your delegates will love visiting the hotel’s spa in between sessions. A little further afield but still within 1.5 hours of Edinburgh, Fairmont St Andrews is a firm favourite of ours at Octopus Events and the perfect venue for keen golfers. It’s a beautiful setting with 30,000 square feet of event space, making it ideal for large conferences, sales meetings and incentives.  They once hosted the G20 summit so you know you’re in safe hands. Cameron House, Loch Lomond is a magnificent 5-star resort hotel on the banks of the loch with beautiful meeting spaces, a cinema, scenic golf course and the sort of memorable activities you don’t get in the city. Seaplane trips, segway safaris, Champagne loch cruises, 4×4 off-road adventures and helicopter tours are all available.

If you want to head out of the UK, Amsterdam is one of the most well-connected destinations by plane and rail which means it can accommodate a range of travel budgets. It’s a vibrant, safe and inclusive city with gorgeous galleries and the iconic canals. The maze of waterways can be explored by foot, boat, SUP or bike and there are plenty of hotels, excursions and activities on offer.  

The Pillows Maurits Hotel is as comfortable as its name suggests and with 3 meeting rooms for up to 80 people, it’s the ideal central venue for smaller meetings or leadership retreats.  The rooms are pure luxury and there are exceptional food and drink options from fine-dining at VanOost Restaurant to a tasteful brasserie and a roaring 20s cocktail bar.  Another central choice in the heart of the action is W Amsterdam a modern, stylish hotel with a rooftop pool and terrace.  Set in a former chewing gum factory Postillion Hotels, Amsterdam has 3,000 square metres of flexible event space that works just as well for 35 guests as it does for a global event for 1,200.  There’s parking, a fitness centre and high-tech, voice-controlled bedrooms. Twenty minutes outside the city, you can hire the Marienheuvel, Amsterdam as an exclusive manor house for your event. It’s an idyllic, creative space that will inspire attendees in meetings while also allowing them to let off steam in the Dutch countryside in any down time. If the weather’s bad, there’s karaoke, billiards, board games and darts inside. We think it would make a great venue for a murder mystery team building event.

Madrid is the perfect spring or autumn destination when temperatures are still warm but not stiflingly hot. Similar to Amsterdam, it’s great for global flight access and ticks all the boxes for food, drink and culture with memorable activities including flamenco evenings, vineyard visits and tours of the world-famous football stadium.   

For a quirky accommodation choice, try 5-star Hotel Puerta America which has brought together 19 of the best architects and design studios in the world under one roof.  It has 5 slick, minimalist meeting spaces and an amazing ‘skylight lounge’ overlooking the city. La Finca El Bosque is a completely different offering, a traditional Spanish farmhouse in a nature reserve but only 40 minutes from the airport. Designed by an executive training facilitator, it has an impressive 11 meeting spaces, 44 bedrooms and offers on-site team building activities.

Ever-evolving Berlin is a cool, hip destination, well suited for creative and tech businesses who want to make the most of the nightlife, activities and day trips from the capital. 

Stay in So Berline Das Stue, a stunning boutique hotel, with 78 rooms, is located in the former Royal Danish Embassy.  Hotel guests even have their own entrance to Berlin Zoo next door!  The meeting spaces are as sumptuously designed as the bedrooms with atmospheric libraries, a Bel Etage Salon and a private dining room with views of the ostriches and antelopes in the zoo.  Hotel Du Rome, a Rocco Forte hotel, is one of the most iconic and prestigious hotels in Berlin while the Ritz Carlton Berlin offers contemporary luxury with 9 meeting rooms, the city’s largest luxury ballroom which can seat up to 650 guests for a dinner and boasts state of the art technology. Bristol Hotel and Telegraphenamt Hotel are other great options worth investigating.


Seoul, South Korea

 Up-and-coming Seoul in South Korea is famous for its beautiful cherry blossom between March and June.  At 12.5 hours flying time from London, it’s a long journey so might be best suited to senior leadership events, smaller group events and luxury incentives, combined with client meetings.  It is a sophisticated and exceptionally safe choice with spectacular palaces and gardens to visit in between meetings.  

The iconic Grand Hyatt Seoul is minutes from the buzz of downtown Seoul and has 18 acres of grounds giving delegates the perfect combination of relaxation and urban buzz. The meeting facilities are world class with tailor-made set-ups for 20 to 2,000 guests. Part of the ‘Leading Hotels of the World’ (LHW) Group, Shilla Hotel has hosted numerous high profile events in its refined, state-of-the-art meeting spaces and offers fine dining, indulgent spa treatments, shopping and entertainment.

Miami is a relaxed destination that gives your guests the opportunity to visit stunning South Beach with its art deco architecture, walk around the waterfront and marina of Coconut Grove, explore the Everglades and tour downtown Miami and all its museums and cafes. You can even arrange an exclusive lunch at Versace’s house for a small group. It’s not the cheapest destination to host an event but the American service is second-to-none, the flight access is great and there’s an excellent range of 5-star and 4-star hotels.  

The huge, iconic Fontainebleau Hotel is right on Miami beach and is ideal for large conferences and conventions. If you have a smaller, more exclusive group, The Betsy, a beautiful boutique hotel has 130 bedrooms, unique meeting spaces and a rooftop pool deck. About 30 minutes away from Miami by car is Fort Lauderdale, known as ‘The Venice of America’.  At Octopus Events we’ve run a senior staff conference here before and we highly recommend it for its art, culture, historic riverfront and relaxing gondola rides on the canals. Pier Sixty-Six Resort is a lavish, mid-century marvel with an incredible 27 meeting spaces, a 13,000 square foot luxury spa, three pool decks and extraordinary views of the marina.

New York

No list of destinations would be complete without the Big Apple. New York is the perfect central hub for global colleagues to meet, and often a good place to squeeze in a few client meetings while you’re there. The restaurants, shops, theatres, comedy clubs and rooftop bars make entertaining a breeze while Central Park, the Hudson river and attractions like The Rockefeller Centre and The High Line all add up to the ultimate city event experience.  

Luxury boutique hotel, The Edition, New York is in a fantastic location near Madison Square Park with chic event spaces, a fine dining restaurant, spa and 360-degree views of Manhattan. It’s great for smaller groups of up to 80 guests.  Quirky and creative, The Roxy in TriBeCa has a sleek aesthetic, a plush screening room and smaller, intimate meeting spaces. Last but by no means least, the iconic Plaza is a masterclass in opulent grandeur next to Central Park. From the vast Grand Ballroom to the art-filled Terrace room and numerous other wood panelled meeting spaces, it’s designed to make delegates feel part of something very special. It’s a historic masterpiece and on a more light-hearted note gives satisfying Home Alone: Lost in New York vibes to those raised in the eighties and nineties!

A few last considerations to have in the back of your mind when choosing a destination are safety, infrastructure, any country-specific travel restrictions and your organisation’s travel policy i.e. make sure you know whether your company limits the number of employees on the same flight.
